Riders on the beach

Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin was a leading French post-impressionist artist who was not well-appreciated until after his death. Gauguin was later recognized for his experimental use of colors and synthetist style that were distinguishably different from Impressionism. Gauguin spent much of his later life in the Polynesian Islands of Tahiti, Hira Ova and Punaavia and the Marquesas. Riders on the Beach was painted in 1902 on Hira Ova (Hiva Oa).
