In my reimagined version of Over The Town by Marc Chagall I have replaced the snow-laden town as painted by Chagall with a spring coloured version of the town. And, despite the scene as being described by some analysts as a surreal romantic painting depicting the artist and his wife Bella floating joyfully over his snow-dusted hometown Vitebsk celebrating the transcendent, weightless feeling of their love by defying gravity and ordinary reality, the picture also has in it, in the front lower lefthand side, near the fence, what some analysts have described as a vagrant defecating.
- The Townscape: Below them sprawls the snow-covered Russian village of Vitebsk, Chagall’s birthplace. The small, charming wooden houses, winding paths, and endless fences are rendered mostly in muted, greyish-white and pastel tones.
- The Color Contrast: While much of the village is painted in quiet, faded colors, one house stands out in a vibrant, pulsating red—often interpreted as a symbol of a passionate, bursting heart.

Cultural SignificanceThe artwork was heavily inspired by Chagall’s profound, life-long attachment to his roots and his deep love for his wife.
